President's Report December 2015

posted Dec 11, 2015, 11:48 PM by Nigel Tomkins

First up, I thank those members who made their way to the club room for our recently held AGM meeting in November, and for the vote of confidence that has put myself back into the seat as president of the club for 2016.

We have an outstanding team of committee members, and I am confident that we can bring you the same high standard of operation that you've come to expect in the prior coordination of the club's various activities. I would like to thank Marion Dodds for taking on the challenge of club secretary, she will do an excellent job, and I look forward to working with her. Thank you, Tim Knopp, for stepping up to the challenge of Treasurer. I am sure Tim will handle this role and take it in all too easy strides. We are also joined again by John Russell our Newsletter editor, Stu Evans as Hall Manager, Craig Ballantyne, Derek Partridge, Mark Burrows, and “newcomer” Trevor Farquharson.  I would like to say a huge thank you to the former Committee members also; Elizabeth Searls,  Noel Holmes, Irene Russell, Hayden Scorringe, and Larissa Searls.

For the month of December, things will be rather quiet. However, we will begin the New Year with a Social Friday night meeting on the 8th of January 2016. This meeting will be informal.  We intend on running this meeting monthly on the 2nd Friday of the month. Please update your calendars and join us for a chit chat from 7:00 pm. The bar will be open, and let us have general discussions, non-structured debates, fantastic ideas, and a brew or two.

The General Monthly meeting is back and on the 4th Monday of the month. The next formal meeting will be on the 25th of January 2016.  This meeting is the time for you to put forth your desired plans. During these meetings you will hear about the official activities of the club,  our committee will have an opportunity to report back to you on what is new, what is coming up, and any other events we hope to offer members.

We have our 70th-Anniversary celebrations coming up, 22nd & 23rd April 2016. The discount rate on tickets does close soon, so do remember to get your tickets ASAP at http://70th.omcc.org.nz. Also, for those interested in racing, the historical Bethune's Gully Hill Climb on the Saturday of the same weekend. In March, we have a favorite getaway weekend - staying once again at the lovely Benbrae Resort in Cardrona Valley. Keep monitoring our website for information concerning our next track day coming to you on 19th March at Levels Timaru.

A massive thank you to Phillip Scorringe for stepping up to the challenge of Brass Monkey Chairperson.  Phillip brings to the table a heap of experience, and will no doubt be an asset to the Rally this year. Speaking of, this is the 36th annual Brass Monkey. If you would like to help out in any way we are always looking for helping hands, not just on the day, but leading up to the event too. Send us your contact details at sec@brassmonkeyrally.org.nz. You may or not know it, but we have already had our first meeting for the Brass 2016.

One last thing but not least, I say thank you to my partner Joanna, and to the rest of our tribe; Cullan, Eva, and Arlin. I will try, and I hope they will not have to put up with too much short-tempered tiredness on my behalf. That is enough for me for now, have a Happy Christmas and safe New Year.

Nigel Tomkins,

President OMCC.
