REVolution: 100 years of motorcycles has been created by the Otago Museum team in association with local experts – Bill and Jason Veitch from well-known Dunedin motorcycle dealership McIver and Veitch Ltd, alongside motorcycle collectors and enthusiasts Brian Walker and Trevor Kempton.

Driving the exhibition is a timeline of motorcycles dating from 1902 right up to 2013 which explores advancements in motorcycle design and technology. Thanks to the generosity of riders across the country, REVolution: 100 years of motorcycles is packed full of more than 100 motorcycles from world-famous manufacturers including Indian, Triumph, Harley-Davidson, Suzuki and Honda.

Here are some standout motorcycles making an appearance at REVolution: 100 years of motorcycles:

  • 1902 Motosacoche
  • 1913 Indian
  • 1916 Harley-Davidson Silent Gray Fellow
  • 1920 N.U.T
  • 1927 Douglas DT5 Speedway

A series of interactive exhibits give you the chance to delve into the science behind motorcycles – from the evolution of drive systems to the cycles of a four-stroke engine. Zoom around the course at the Isle of Man TT Race with Kiwi racer Bruce Anstey, thanks to a helmet-cam close-up view of the nail-biting leans and close calls. Then, enjoy a unique perspective of the exhibition by hopping on one of five sit-on motorcycles – including a Harley-Davidson, a BMW Superbike, a vintage Triumph, a Suzuki racebike and even a kids’ motocross bike for budding young riders.

“We’re ready to burn rubber this summer with our exhilarating special exhibition which delves into advancements in motorcycle design and technology over the past century,” says Museum Director Dr Ian Griffin. “REVolution: 100 years of motorcycles is a fantastic example of cooperation between a hard-working team of experts, motorcycle collectors across the country and the Otago Museum team, and we’re delighted to be able to share it with our visitors.”
